Nestled in the rolling hills of Northwest Georgia, Rockmart is one of three towns in Polk County. The cities founders chose the name “Rockmart” because of the abundance of slate in the area. Not too many years back, Rockmart was home to a Goodyear Rubber Plant, which, in addition to tires, also built floats for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Rockmart’s Downtown Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The layout of the Town Square and downtown area is unique. One side of the street is a row of shops, while the other has short perpendicular streets with shops on both sides. There are shops and restaurants tucked around every corner.
In the downtown area, you will find the Rockmart Historical Museum. The museum is located in the original Rockmart City Hall building. The Museum tells the history of Rockmart and the Polk County area.
Located just behind the Rockmart Historical Museum is the Rockmart Memorial Park. It features a monument recognizing and honoring Rockmart residents that have served our country in our nation’s armed forces.
Seaborn Jones Park is just behind the town square and is a beautiful park named after one of Rockmart’s area founders. The Welsh heavily influences Rockmart, and every year an annual Welshfest is held in the spring, celebrates Rockmart’s Welsh heritage.
While you are still in the downtown area, you will find the Rockmart Cultural Arts Center. The Rockmart Community is very active in the arts and encourages its residents to participate in Choir, Visual Arts, Music, and Theatre skills. Rockmart offers numerous opportunities for arts participation throughout the year.
Rockmart has a small-town feel with all the conveniences of a larger town with easy access to shopping and to Atlanta.
